I always had a fascination for animated characters and the virtual reality they create around. Now the interaction between the real users and the virtual space is intertwined by CNN. The company has announced a hub within second Life, a virtual reality world developed by Linden Research, Inc.This concept of Internet-based virtual world was deployed in 2003 but gained much popularity last year and early this year. Science fiction genre, and the novel ‘Snow Crash’ by Neal Stephenson inspire the concept.
The news channel will function as in the real world with video shooting, reports creation based on any event in second life. The selected submission by CNN will go back to the virtual world as SL iReport. It also provides a Kiosk that offers free gears and tools such as video on SL iReport, apparel, hats, T-Shirts and press badges etc. It will be interesting to know how the residents in second life respond to “SL iReports”.
